I can't remember the name of the book?

When I was in 5th grade our teacher read us this book about an Indian girl who gets married at a young age and then her husband dies and she has to live alone as a widow...then I remember she would make quilts or fabric, one of the two. I think the book cover was red. Does this ring a bell to anyone? What's the name if this book? Please help!
