Used Op. Sys Disc to rcvr from Bl sc of death. chose #2 - auto bkup files. now can't find data files. Any idea

I have a gateway laptop - using XP Home - recently exp. blue screen of death and reinstalled the Operating system using the disc provided. There are two options - 1 - to destroy all data files and 2. to backup data files if you have 400 mb of ex. space. I chose #2 - reinstalled my Op. System and would now like to find all my personal files such as pics, school work, word doents, resumes,, etc... but have no clue where to begin. Am I doomed? Please help . Thanks for your time.
